Why AddReset? (or how to make a hardwareswitch with software :-))
To be on the safe side you probably installed your AdSpeed (as
shipped from factory) to boot in 7 MHz. If you didn't some games
might not work, and ZKick will crash heavily! The manual
describes how to install a hardwareswitch which can toggle the
bootspeed. However, I don't like loose cables, nor do I want to
open my computer once everything is fit. Thats why I wrote
AddReset.
Simply type AddReset from CLI/Shell. Next, hold your gamedisk
(or demo or something) ready, press the reset-keys. The screen
will shortly flash in different colours. Insert your boot-disk.
(or boot from HD) AdSpeed will now start in 14Mhz!!
Once a reset have been performed and AddReset's routine is
executed (screen flash) it will remove itself from memory so that
no program/game/demo will be disturbed from it.
If it doesn't work
If the screen doesn't flash shortly after you have pushed the
reset-keys check this :
1) Try to run Setpatch before AddReset
2) Check that no virus-killer/virus has removed AddReset from
memory.
3) Make sure you're not running AddReset if you have Kickstart
2.0 since it crashes if you boot in 14 Mhz!
If the program/game/demo doesn't run faster it might be :
1) It is a nice program which not is CPU-dependent. (which makes
all A3000-owners happy)
2) The CPU-speed isn't the limit, but the customs-chips.
3) The program has switched AdSpeed to 7 MHz (probably wihtout
knowing it, unlikely, but possible.....)
4) The loader turned off FAST-mem, and made a reset, which will
restore AdSpeed, since AddReset removes itself after one
reset.
5) The program uses only CHIP-mem.
If the program crashes, be happy that you didn't install your
AdSpeed to boot in 14 Mhz :-)
About Virus-Killer
If you just have run AddReset most Virus-killers will alarm
you with something like "ColdCapture modified" which is perfectly
legal. If you tell the killer to remove this 'virus' AddReset
will not work. If you are unsure, run the killer before AddReset.
If it warns you then, you might have a virus.........
